Privacy Policy

The protection of your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to acting in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

AMI is a business division of IAG New Zealand Limited (IAG NZ), 1 Fanshawe Street, Auckland 1010. IAG NZ is part of Insurance Australia Group, an ASX listed company with general insurance businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Refer to the Insurance Australia Group website for the Master Privacy Policy.

AMI collects, holds and uses your personal information for insurance-related and marketing purposes. Where applicable we also collect, hold, and use your personal information for other purposes which are complying with legislation, regulation, and industry codes that are applicable to us such as anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-slavery requirements.

The intended recipient of your information is AMI. We may also give your information to and obtain it from others, including other business divisions of IAG NZ and Insurance Australia Group (although we’re not obliged to), our suppliers, your financiers, government and law enforcement agencies, and the insurance industry, including the Insurance Claims Register Limited where records of claims are kept. Information from you or about you may be stored physically or electronically, including offshore facilities, by IAG NZ, any other IAG NZ company, or Insurance Australia Group companies or any supplier (with whom we have a contractual arrangement). Where your information is stored physically or electronically outside of New Zealand, we ensure that our contractual arrangements with these suppliers/entities generally include an obligation for them to comply with New Zealand privacy laws.

We may also give your information to and obtain it from Southern Response (being Southern Response Earthquake Services Limited, formerly AMI Insurance Limited) for the purposes of Southern Response evaluating, processing, managing and settling any claims, and any matters that are necessary for, or incidental to, such purposes and other insurance purposes, in accordance with Southern Response’s privacy policy. We will take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect this information from unauthorised access or disclosure.

Failure by you to provide accurate and complete information may result in your application for insurance being declined, your claim being reduced or declined, or we may void your policy from the outset. If anything changes, you must also tell us.

You may request access to, or correction of, the information we hold about you by writing to us or telephoning us on 0800 100 200.

You agree that AMI is authorised to collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this privacy policy. Where you provide AMI with personal information about any other person for insurance-related purposes, you confirm that you have the authority of those persons to disclose such information and to authorise AMI to collect, hold, use and disclose the information for insurance-related and marketing purposes in accordance with this privacy policy.

NZ Motor Vehicle Register

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) operate the New Zealand Motor Vehicle Register which records and holds information about vehicles registered in New Zealand and the persons these are registered to (MVR Information).

Pursuant to section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA) and Gazette Notice 2022-au4072 of 28 September 2022, IAG may access the MVR Information for the purposes of assessing or processing an insurance policy or claim in relation to a vehicle.

You can instruct NZTA that you do not wish your name and address to be made available through the Motor Vehicle Register under section 241 of the LTA (opt-out). However, IAG also has authorised access under section 237 of the LTA to the opt-out information for the purposes specified. IAG agents with access to MVR Information may also access it for IAG purposes. For more information on what the Motor Vehicle Register is and how to opt-out please see www.nzta.govt.nz
