Cyber FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need Cyber Insurance?

Cybercrime is increasing and presents a real risk to Kiwi businesses. The number of cyberattacks on small Kiwi businesses doubled from 2018 to 2021, with an average cost of $159,000 per attack*. Therefore, cyber protection is becoming increasingly important for all businesses – no matter their size. Installing anti-virus software, making sure multi-factor authentication is enabled, and completing regular system backups are the first steps in protecting your business from cyber threats. By adding cyber insurance protection, you'll have a safety net that can help safeguard your continued operations should you experience an attack or incident.

AMI is on your side, ready to protect your business should a cyber incident occur – it’s our business to protect yours.

Who is UpGuard, and how do they help protect my business?

UpGuard is a world-leading software provider specialising in cyber security risk management. Trusted by governments and Fortune 500 companies, UpGuard’s integrated risk platform combines security ratings and threat intelligence capabilities to give businesses an outside-in view of their digital risk. As part of our Cyber Insurance product, we offer an UpGuard Cyber Vulnerability Assessment to determine your digital vulnerabilities, as well as active monitoring throughout the term of your cover.

How it works:

  • Share your business website URL address during the cyber insurance quote process and get your initial vulnerability score.
  • After purchasing the policy, a full report will be sent to you, with information that can be used to improve your website security.
  • Your business website will be actively monitored throughout your policy lifetime, and if UpGuard detects a material change in your score, we’ll send you a new report. This means you can stay on top of any material changes in your cyber risk.

Note: If your business doesn’t have a URL, the UpGuard report won’t be applicable to you. Our CyberGo policy will be the only cover option for your business.

The CyberPlus policy has an extended level of cover, including Brand Protection cover and Personal Reputation cover, as well as a larger sum insured amount of $2 million.
