Ah, summer! Our favourite part of the year. We’re all looking forward to enjoying our backyards, taking road trips to see the rellies, and catching some waves on our beautiful beaches. But with lots of people away and on the roads, it can all get a little frantic. Here’s three simple ways to make the most of summer without losing your cool.
If you’re planning a summer road trip, remember to be a little kinder to yourself, your car and your passengers. Before you head off, make sure your car is in tip top condition, and plan to make regular stops so everyone can stretch their legs. Also, if you’re tired, stay safe and take a break.
Did you know AMI’s roadside rescue covers anyone who’s driving your car, 24/7? Just the kind of thing you should take with you on your road-trip.
If you need to get away from it all but don’t have the funds, a staycation can still be a treat. Take a tour around your hometown and see the sights. Pitch a tent, roast some marshmallows and camp out in your backyard. Weather not so great? Host a film festival from your couch by picking a theme and popping some popcorn. Or plan a games night – classics like Monopoly, Battleship and Cluedo never go out of fashion!
However long you’re away for, don’t forget to sort things at home for a easier return. Take foods that’ll go bad out of the fridge, empty the clothes dryer and the dishwasher and take out the rubbish and recycling. If you’re heading into the bush, tell your friends and family where you’re going. Hide your valuables in the cupboards so they’re out of sight.
And of course, make sure your house, contents and car insurance is up-to-date. Then, if the unexpected happens, you won’t have a summer that’s unforgettable for the wrong reasons.
