Does AMI insure electric (EV), hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles?

Does cover differ between EV or petrol-powered cars?

Yes. If you've taken out any AMI car insurance and added the optional AMI Roadside Rescue to your policy, our AMI Roadside Rescue team can assist with EV, Hybrid and PHEV breakdowns.
What happens if I lose my charger?
The charger/charging cable that comes with your car is considered a part of the vehicle and is covered under our Comprehensive Car Insurance. So, if you lose or damage it and you have Comprehensive cover, you'll be able to make a claim to get a replacement.
Are charging stations covered by my car insurance?
If you choose to install a fixed charging station (power bank) in your home, it wouldn't be covered under your car insurance. However, if it's permanently wired in by an electrician, it would be covered under an AMI Home Insurance policy.
Does AMI comprehensive car insurance cover my EV battery?
If your car is involved in an accident and the battery is damaged then yes, it's covered. However, if the battery has some kind of electrical or electronic malfunction, failure or damage then that won't be covered unless that damage results from:

Yes, we do. AMI treats electric motorcycles the same as equivalent petrol-powered motorbikes and these would be covered under our Motorcycle policy.
