Moving house can be a really stressful time, so no one wants to arrive at their new address and discover their precious possessions have gone astray. Unfortunately, that’s what happened to Edie when she moved from Ashburton to Christchurch.
When Edie went to look for a much-loved watch, she discovered it was missing from a box she had clipped shut. Looking more closely, she realised that other jewellery and her father's medals – recognising his long involvement with Hato Hone St John, the New Zealand Labour Party and service in WWII – were also gone.
She searched high and low, but no trace of the items was found.
"The watch was fairly unique," explains Edie. "It was blue with 3D effects, blue flowers and a blue strap."
Having exhausted her searching, she got in touch with us online to make a claim and found the website easy to use. This was followed with a couple of telephone calls, and Edie says all the staff she dealt with were sympathetic and accommodating.
"They were so friendly and helpful. I believe in treating people with respect and understanding, being aware of what they might be going through, and AMI has always treated me like this," says Edie. "We all get wound up in our everyday 'stuff,' so we have to remember to be kind – and that includes to the people who are helping us with insurance claims."
Edie's claim was paid out promptly, and since then she has replaced some jewellery but, sadly, not her much-loved blue watch. She hopes her dad's medals may be returned and keeps a watchful eye on online selling sites to see if they turn up.
